More and more people are avoiding wheat products in fear of potential negative health risks from gluten. While abstaining from wheat and other common food products has been beneficial to most, the risk factors don’t derive solely from gluten intolerances. In fact, some people in the United States that are normally prone to digestive issues can eat wheat in other areas of the world and suffer no ill affects. So what else is in wheat that is causing so many health issues? How about (glyphosate), the active ingredient in roundup?
Dr. Anthony Samsel and Dr. Seneff produced revealing evidence of glyphosate and gluten relationship to many modern health disorders. Their findings are reiterated on mercola.com and Dr. Mercola explains the whole story in the video here.
“Celiac disease is a severe reaction to gluten that primarily affects your gastrointestinal system. Glyphosate has been shown to severely damage your gut flora and cause chronic diseases rooted in gut dysfunction.”
“The use of glyphosate on wheat crops has risen in tandem with the rise in celiac disease. In fact, it correlates to a greater degree than glyphosate usage on corn and soy.”
“According to Dr. Seneff, desiccating4 non-organic wheat crops with glyphosate just before harvest came in vogue about 15 years ago. Interestingly enough, when you expose wheat to a toxic chemical like glyphosate, it actually releases more seeds. “It ‘goes to seed’ as it dies,” Dr. Seneff explains. “At its last gasp, it releases the seed.”
How is there so much roundup in wheat? Wheat farmer, Keith Lewis, reveals that drenching wheat in RoundUp is a common practice among farmers in order to increase production. A wheat field usually ripens unevenly, so in order to gain maximum yield, plants are smothered in RoundUp to insure that all the wheat in the field is evenly ripened. Keith lewis explains the process:
“I have been a wheat farmer for 50 yrs and one wheat production practice that is very common is applying the herbicide Roundup (glyposate) just prior to harvest. Roundup is licensed for preharvest weed control. Monsanto, the manufacturer of Roundup claims that application to plants at over 30% kernel moisture result in roundup uptake by the plant into the kernels. Farmers like this practice because Roundup kills the wheat plant allowing an earlier harvest.”
Because most farmers in the United States are more concerned with production than quality, or are uninformed of the risks, they employ methods that increase yield despite potential side effects. Where is the accountability? Knowing how the system works, its likely that there will be little to no accountability for these harmful products. What is the point in having the EPA, the FDA and all these other regulatory bureaucracies if they don’t recognize that companies like monsanto continue to harm the ecosystem with chemicals like RoundUp?
