According to a recent study conducted by a team of researchers at the Japanese Health Ministry, electronic cigarettes contain up to 10 times more cancer-causing substances than regular tobacco.

In the past few years, electronic cigarettes have been presented as a safe alternative to traditional cigarettes because they are smokeless. However, these products are still very new to the market and it has not yet been determined whether or not they are actually healthier than smoking cigarettes.
The new study in Japan has reportedly found that electronic cigarettes may actually be more harmful.
“Especially when the… wire (which vaporizes the liquid) gets overheated, higher amounts of those harmful substances seemed to be produced,” researcher Naoki Kunugita said in the study.
It is true that any scientific studies these days should be taken with a grain of salt, because we are without a doubt living in an era of soviet style science, where state and corporate entities are using the scientific establishment to project a particular worldview into the mainstream consciousness.
It is also true that governments world-wide have been pushing to regulate the electronic cigarette industry, which has grown into a $3 billion per-year business. This is all important to consider when looking at a state sponsored study in a country that is intent on regulating the industry.

Still, the findings in this study are compelling, and with any new product that enters the marketplace, it is important for it to undergo extensive research, both on and off market, in order to determine its safety. While this study should not be held as an excuse to regulate a popular industry, it should persuade electronic cigarette users to look into other research on the products before continuing use.
