The Collapse Of The Too Big To Fail Banks In Europe Is Here

<span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br><br>There is so much chaos going on that I don’t even know where to start.  For a very long time I have been warning my readers that a major banking collapse was coming to Europe, and now it is finally unfolding.  Let’s start with Deutsche Bank.  The stock of the most important bank in the “strongest economy in Europe” plunged <a href="https://finance.yahoo.com/echarts?s=db+Interactive#{%22allowChartStacking%22:true}">another 8 percent on Monday</a>, and it is now hovering just above the all-time record low that was set during the last financial crisis.  Overall, the stock price is now down a staggering 36 percent since 2016 began, and Deutsche Bank credit default swaps are going <a href="http://www.zerohedge.com/sites/default/files/images/user5/imageroot/2016/02/03/DB%20CDS%20c.jpg">parabolic</a>.  Of course my readers were alerted to major problems at Deutsche Bank <a href="http://theeconomiccollapseblog.com/archives/there-are-indications-that-a-major-financial-event-in-germany-could-be-imminent">all the way back in September</a>, and now the endgame is playing out.  In addition to Deutsche Bank, the list of other “too big to fail” banks in Europe that appear to be in very serious trouble includes Commerzbank, Credit Suisse, HSBC and BNP Paribas.  Just about every major bank <a href="http://themostimportantnews.com/archives/a-run-on-the-banks-begins-in-italy-as-italian-banking-stocks-collapse">in Italy</a> could fall on that list as well, and Greek bank stocks lost close to a quarter of their value on Monday alone. Even Wikipedia admits that ” <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bank_for_International_Settlements">it is not accountable to any single national government.</a>”  The Bank for International Settlements was used to launder money for the Nazis during World War II, but these days the main purpose of the BIS is to guide and direct the centrally-planned global financial system.  Today, 58 global central banks belong to the BIS, and it has far more power over how the U.S. economy (or any other economy for that matter) will perform over the course of the next year than any politician does.  Every two months, the central bankers of the world gather in Basel for another “Global Economy Meeting”.  During those meetings, decisions are made which affect every man, woman and child on the planet, and yet none of us have any say in what goes on.  The Bank for International Settlements is an organization that was founded by the global elite and it operates for the benefit of the global elite, and it is intended to be one of the key cornerstones of the emerging one world economic system.  It is imperative that we get people educated about what this organization is and where it plans to take the global economy. </span><br>

<em><strong><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Why am I getting in line to take my money out of Bank of America? Because of Ben Bernanke and Janet Yellen, who officially begins her term as chairwoman on Feb. 1.</span></strong></em><br />
<em><strong><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Before I explain, let me disclose that I have been a stopped clock of criticism of the Federal Reserve for half a decade. That’s because I believe that when the Fed intervenes in markets, it has two effects — both negative. First, it decreases overall wealth by distorting markets and causing bad investment decisions. Second, the members of the Fed become reverse Robin Hoods as they take from the poor (and unsophisticated) investors and give to the rich (and politically connected). These effects have been noticed; a <a href="http://www.gallup.com/poll/167099/fed-chairman-bernanke-leaves-mixed-verdict.aspx" style="outline: none; text-decoration: none;">Gallup poll</a> taken in the last few days reports that only the richest Americans support the Fed. (See the table.)</span></strong></em><br />

<em><strong><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Why do I risk starting a run on Bank of America by withdrawing my money and presuming that many fellow depositors will read this and rush to withdraw too? Because they pay me zero interest. Thus, even an infinitesimal chance Bank of America will not repay me in full, whenever I ask, switches the cost-benefit conclusion from stay to flee.</span></strong></em><br />
<em><strong><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Let me explain: Currently, I receive zero dollars in interest on my $1,000,000. The reason I had the money in Bank of America was to keep it safe. However, the potential cost to keeping my money in Bank of America is that the bank may be unwilling or unable to return my money.</span></strong></em><br />

Banks today promise everyone that they can have their money back instantaneously, but the bank does not actually have enough money to pay everyone at once because they have lent most of it out to other people — 90 percent or more. Thus, banks are always at risk for runs where the depositors at the front of the line get their money back, but the depositors at the back of the line do not. Consider this image from a fully insured U.S. bank, IndyMac in California, just five years ago.</span></strong></em></li>
<li><em><strong><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Some of the investments of Bank of America go bust. Because Bank of America has loaned out the vast majority of depositors’ money, if even a small percentage of its loans go bust, the firm is at risk for bankruptcy. Leverage, combined with some bad investments, caused the failure of Lehman Brothers in 2008 and would have caused the failure of Bank of America, AIG, Goldman Sachs, Morgan Stanley, Merrill Lynch, Bear Stearns, and many more institutions in 2008 had the government not bailed them out.</span></strong></em></li>
</ul><em><strong><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">In recent days, the chances for trouble at Bank of America have become more salient because of woes in the emerging markets, particularly Argentina, Turkey, Russia and China. The emerging market fears caused the Dow Jones Industrial Average to lose more than 500 points over the last week.</span></strong></em><br />
<em><strong><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Returning to my money now entrusted to Bank of America, market turmoil reminded me that this particular trustee is simply not safe. Or not safe enough, given the fact that safety is the reason I put the money there at all. The market turmoil could threaten “BofA” with bankruptcy today as it did in 2008, and as banks have experienced again and again over time.</span></strong></em></blockquote><div style="line-height: 18px;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Based on just this article, the action of the emerging markets, and worse, the panic many of us are witnessing as wealthy individuals and nations are attempting to obtain the delivery of their PHYSICAL gold, I would advise everyone to decide on their own accord of what course of action to take.</span></div><div style="line-height: 18px;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />

I said, 'Can I have £5,000?' They said no. I said, 'Can I have £4,000?' They said no. And then I wrote one out for £3,000 and they said, 'OK, we'll give you that.' However, following feedback, we are immediately updating guidance to our customer facing staff to reiterate that it is not mandatory for customers to provide documentary evidence for large cash withdrawals, and on its own, failure to show evidence is not a reason to refuse a withdrawal. We are writing to apologise to any customer who has been given incorrect information and inconvenienced."</span></div><div id="story_continues_3" style="border: 0px; line-height: 19.5px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Money Box asked other banks what their policy is on large cash withdrawals.</span></div><div style="border: 0px; line-height: 19.5px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">They all said they reserved the right to ask questions about large cash withdrawals.</span></div><div style="border: 0px; line-height: 19.5px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">But none of them said they would require evidence of what the money was being used for before paying out.</span></div><div style="border: 0px; line-height: 19.5px; margin-bottom: 1em; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;"><span style="background-color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Douglas Carswell, the Conservative MP for Clacton, is alarmed by the new HSBC policy: "All these regulations which have been imposed on banks allow enormous interpretation. It basically infantilises the customer. It provided insurance for around $1.5 trillion in non-interest-bearing accounts with a limit of $250,000.
