This feature enables consumers to personally voice their opposition to the use of GM foods directly to the parties involved. As a result, the app serves not only as a shopping guide and teaching tool, but one that can be used for widespread advocacy as well. The app also has a “Take Action” section allowing people to contact state and federal agencies and officials to demand better regulatory oversight, safety testing and labeling laws for GM foods and crops.<br />

The True Food Shoppers Guide was compiled because you have the right to know what’s in your food!<br />
The Guide was compiled primarily from direct communications with food producers. In some cases, we received company policy statements from consumers who passed these on to us. In addition to written statements, we spoke to many company representatives to clarify or assess their position. Products on the RED list contain ingredients that come from the most common GE crops (corn, soy, canola, cotton). Companies with products on this list have confirmed that their products may have or are likely to be made with GE ingredients, or have not denied using GE foods when given the opportunity to do so. Companies on the GREEN list have made a concerted effort to avoid GE ingredients and have company policies asserting their position on avoiding GE foods.<br />
As ingredients change in products all the time, the best thing is to check the ingredients list of the products you buy often. Keep a look out for:<br />
Corn: corn oil, corn syrup, high fructose corn syrup, corn starch, corn meal<br />
Soy: soy protein, soy lecithin, soy oil, soy sauce, soy isolates<br />
Canola: canola oil<br />
Cotton: cottonseed oil<br />

Organic companies against labeling GMOs?<br />

If Proposition 37 in California passes, foods that contain genetically modified (GM) ingredients would be required by law to have a label saying so. This would be a huge step forward for those of us who care about not eating GM food. It would also be a step forward for those who think we just have the right to know what is in our food.<br />
Unfortunately, while the proposition has a lot of people support, it has significantly less funding in support of it. Companies have raised $23.5 million to fight Prop 27, while only $2.78 million has been raised in support of it. With GM ingredients in so many store-bought brands, it is hardly surprising that money is being thrown against this prop. However, what is surprising is how some of our organic purchases could be helping the cause against labeling GM foods!<br />
The Cornucopia Institute released a fact sheet sharing many brands that were under a “corporate parent” that gave even millions of dollars to fight against GM labeling. These brands include Larabar, Naked, Horizon Organics, Odwalla and other familiar brands.<br />

<div style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px;">Thanks to the intellectual campaigns we have been launching on the front lines against the agricultural corruption brought upon by Monsanto and its GMOs, we are now winning the overall war against the corporate monopoly and genetically modified creations at large.</div><div style="font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px;">One such major victory, which occurred as a result of activism and overall outrage from the public, is the announcement by Senators that they are going to <a href="http://naturalsociety.com/victory-senate-to-kill-monsanto-protection-act-amid-outrage/" style="color: #004ab8; outline: none; text-decoration: none;">‘kill’ the Monsanto Protection Act</a> renewal legislation. The Monsanto Protection Act, as you are probably aware, was of course the legislative rider (a slippery way to including law into a bill that is oftentimes irrelevant) that granted Monsanto legal immunity for its crops up until September 30th of 2013.</div>

Allergens are also known to be present in GMO foods, but this is largely ignored by the FDA. Also, now that the </span><a href="http://preventdisease.com/news/13/080113_EPA-Allows-Monsanto-Glyphosate-Herbicide-60-Times-Higher-Toxic-Canola-Soy-Sunflower-Flax-Peanuts.shtml" style="outline: none; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank"><span style="color: black;">EPA has allowed Monsanto’s glyphosate herbicide at levels 60 times above toxic exposure</span></a><span style="color: #3b5436;"> for canola, soy, sunflower, flax and peanuts, it’s a free pass to chemically spray most GMO foods beyond acceptable limits.</span></div><script async src="//pagead2.googlesyndication.com/pagead/js/adsbygoogle.js"></script><br />

So long as the engineered protein is safe, foods from GM crops are substantially equivalent and they cannot pose any health risks.” The US Food and Drug Administration waived all levels of safety testing in 1996 before approving the commercialization of these crops. Nothing more than voluntary research is necessary, and the FDA does not even want to see the results. And there is certainly no need to publish any of it. If you remember 1996, the year that the first crops were commercialized, the research scientists of the US FDA all predicted that transgenic crops would have unpredictable hard to detect side effects, allergens, toxins, nutritional effects, new diseases.</div><div style="background-color: white; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px;"><span style="color: #3b5436;">Unless you are geographically located in a dozen or so countries in the world who have </span><span style="color: black;"><a href="http://preventdisease.com/news/12/053112_Most-Nations-in-the-World-Have-No-GMO-Free-Platform-To-Protect-Their-Citizens.shtml" style="outline: none; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank">declared GMO (genetically modified organism) bans</a>, then you’re likely eating GMO. It’s almost impossible to avoid all GMO foods, however<a href="http://preventdisease.com/news/13/071013_6-Ways-To-Avoid-Genetically-Modified-Foods.shtml" style="outline: none; text-decoration: none;" target="_blank"> educating yourself can make a big difference in the percentage of GMO foods you purchase</a> </span><span style="color: #3b5436;">as a consumer.</span></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #3b5436; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px;">Although consumers have a right to know what’s in their food, especially concerning products for which health and environmental concerns have been raised, <strong>there are 7 reasons why they are unlikely to be be identified on any labeled food products:</strong></div><div style="background-color: white; color: #3b5436; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px;"><strong>1.</strong> Mandatory labeling would allow consumers to identify and steer clear of food products that cause them problems. This would cause a ripple effect on the entire food industry causing information campaigns on some of the largest and most successful brands in the world, effectively removing their popularity through incremental education.</div><div style="background-color: white; color: #3b5436; font-family: Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18px; margin-bottom: 15px;"><strong>2.</strong> For religious or ethical reasons, many people want to avoid eating animal products, including animal DNA. More GMO foods are now being engineered with insect DNA and more experiments are taking place with animal DNA. If consumers were more informed through labeling initiatives, it would cause a massive backlash on well known brands of processed foods by these groups. <span style="background-color: white;">After their screening, only 3 of the embryos possessed the correct number of chromosomes required for absolute healthy fetal development.
